3 Critical Exercises To Increase Vertical Jump

Posted by admin on February 5th, 2010

If you’ve looked online for exercises to increase vertical jump, you’ve probably realized that there is tons of advice.  From my years of experience working with athletes, I have realized there are 3 critical exercises you must do to increase your vertical jump:

1.  Squats – squats are a key exercise to increase vertical jump because they will strengthen your quads, hamstrings and glutes, which are all essential for vertical explosion off of the ground.

2.  Calf raises – calf raises are another one of the critical exercises to increase vertical jump because your calves are a key muscle group that give you both power and explosiveness.

3. Leg raises – what I mean by leg raises are the kind where you hang from a chin-up bar and lift your knees to your chest.  This is one of the critical exercises to increase vertical jump because it not only strengthens your abs, but it also strengthens your hip flexors, which provide additional explosiveness and power.

This article highlights some of the more important exercises to increase vertical jump.  There are additional exercises to increase vertical jump, but these 3 are the primary ones I like to target.  These should get you on the right path to increasing your vertical jump and be dunking in not time.

Best Vertical Program – Beware of These Scams

Posted by admin on February 2nd, 2010

In search of the best vertical program, I’m sure you’ve noticed that there are a ton of them – and they all claim to be the best vertical jumping program on the market.  I’m sure each of these programs is OK in its own right, but if you are going to spend your hard earned money, you have to be aware of some of the more typical scams out there.

First of all, a lot of these programs will offer “one-on-one” coaching.  While this is not a scam in and of itself, the ones that charge you an arm and a leg and “secretly” sign you up for this monthly charge are being deceitful.  Yes, there are some vertical leap programs that will bill you month after month for this coaching, even if you didn’t know you signed up for it.  And some of them cost upwards of $150 per month!  Just be careful and be sure to read the fine print.

Secondly, many of these programs that offer this one on one coaching do so only via e-mail.  One program even says that they will answer the e-mails as quickly as possible “depending on how busy they are.”  So, if you are expecting some personal, one-on-one coaching, don’t count on it.  It is typically done through e-mail and will not be instantaneous.

Finally, in your search for the best vertical program, be a little wary of the one size fits all concept.  Most of the vertical jump programs are designed as a one size fits all solution.  Again, this is not necessarily a scam, but it does make you wonder how in the world the program would work equally as well for a 5′5″ person vs a 6′5″ person?  The best vertical programs will have some customization available for your height, weight, abilities, etc.

All in all, there are some good vertical jumping programs available on the market.  As in anything, you just have to be careful when choosing.

How To Improve Your Vertical Jump – It’s Time To Get Dunkadelic!

Posted by admin on January 30th, 2010

You have to figure out how to improve your vertical leap if you want to get dunkadelic on your opponents!  Here are some tried and true rules you must follow if you are going to soar to new heights.

1. Get to the gym – you have to workout with some weight resistance for your legs and calves.  For legs, you want to do exercises that will build and tone muscle, such as squats and lunges.  Squats can be done with free weights or on machines and are the best overall leg exercises.  This is because they will help build your quads, hamstrings and glutes, which is essential to improve your vertical leap.

2. Lose some weight - If you could drop some pounds, losing it will make you lighter, and you will be able to jump higher.  Not only will the lower weight help improve your vertical leap, but it will also cause a lot less stress on your knees and hips.  Along the same lines, be sure to stay away from the junky food and eat plenty of protein and complex carbohydrates to keep your weight in check.

3. Make a goal and don’t quit until you reach it – this is probably the most important of them all.  If you truly want to improve your vertical leap, you have to set a goal and then train and practice with a vengeance until you reach it.  You have to want to improve your vertical so bad it permeates every aspect of your life!  Channel that drive and desire into practicing like a maniac until you reach your goal.

Follow these 3 tips and you will be dunkadelic in no time!

How to Master the Art of Basketball Handicapping

Posted by admin on September 2nd, 2008

The sport of basketball is thrilling for two reasons. One, it is an action-packed sport to watch. For another reason, basketball is a great sport to wager on! Individuals seeking more information on how to succeed in basketball handicapping will find this article very useful.

Finding a reliable sportsbook is recommended before venturing into any kind of basketball handicapping. When you place bets through sportsbook, this is called sportsbook betting. You want to be wary of the many scam sportsbook scam artists.

A top-quality sportsbook is trustworthy and is experienced in sports betting. Once you’ve found a bookmaker that possesses these qualities, you’re ready to begin basketball handicapping.

Basketball handicapping can be done in three ways: technical handicapping, situational handicapping, or fundamental handicapping. Technical handicapping refers to exploring various statistical patterns that could be telling of who is the stronger team. In situational handicapping, you want to consider the conditions of the game.

Motivational and schedule factors can actually have a large impact on the outcome of a game. Lastly, it is basic statistics that are the focal point of fundamental basketball handicapping. Here, bettors carefully weigh the strengths and weaknesses of the opposing teams to handicap a basketball game.

How to Win at Sportsbook Betting

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2008

Sportsbooks are increasing in popularity as more and more people are becoming interested in sports betting. Sportsbooks essentially serve as the prime venue for bettors to make their wagers. If you want to become a sportsbook betting pro, here are some tips.

The first tip would be to familiarize yourself with the concept of sportsbook betting. In terms of profits, bookmakers earn 10 percent commission – what is called the “vigorish” or the “juice” – on all lost bets. Betting lines are established not based on the actual strengths of each team but on what the linemakers feel is the public’s perception. This means, for example, basketball odds set by the books are not reflective of who the better basketball team is. This is an important thing to remember when engaging in sportsbook betting.

Making objective bets is the second tip for succeeding in the art of sportsbook betting. Your chances of winning can be improved if you set aside your personal feelings and don’t make your bets based on who your favorite teams are.

Another tip for sportsbook betting would be to place your bets at a strategic time – towards the end of the week is usually a good time. Timing is important because this will give you time to gather pertinent information needed to make an informed bet. You should try to do research on upcoming weather conditions or the worsening of a particular key player’s injury.

The Essentials of Basketball Odds

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2008

Basketball has long been a well-loved sport. Currently, the sport is receiving even more attention with the rising popularity of basketball betting. Those partaking in this lucrative hobby turn to the basketball odds to make their fortunes.

Looking into individual statistics, as well as team statistics, is essential in order to arrive at accurate basketball odds. With regards to individual statistics, bettors generally weigh the weaknesses and strengths of each player.

When learning about team statistics, it is important to keep an open mind about who the league’s strong teams are, as it is not always the team with the number one scorer that makes it to the playoffs.

Keeping yourself abreast of the latest basketball odds, although seemingly difficult, is actually much easier than sports handicapping in sports such as hockey and football. This is because teams in these two sports have so many more players than those in basketball. Hence, the research to be conducted is much less.

Additionally, Internet sites featuring basketball odds of both the NBA and the NCAA also make basketball betting much simpler. These sites offer up-to-date listing of basketball odds.

The secret to succeeding in the art of basketball betting is always being knowledgeable about the basketball odds. This is how quite a number of individuals have managed to generate large amounts of money through sports betting.

Extra Income by Placing Basketball Bets

Posted by admin on August 31st, 2008

The number of people making NBA basketball bets is constantly increasing. This is largely because of the large sums of money that can be made through this lucrative hobby or, for some people, profession.

Prior to placing a basketball bet, it is absolutely imperative that one gathers enough information about NBA players and teams. This can be done by, first, taking a look at player and team statistics. When doing this, make sure you do not immediately decide to place your basketball bet on the team with the superstar player. More often than not, the best NBA picks are the teams with more than just one good player.

Another factor that should influence your betting decision is team cohesiveness. If players on a team have personal problems with each other or with the coach, expect the team’s overall performance to suffer.

The greatest resources to turn to when conducting your research are sports magazines and the World Wide Web. The latter is a very potent resource, as one can use sports betting forums to seek advice from expert bettors on how to make a good basketball bet.

Even with extensive research, an accurate basketball bet is never guaranteed. Nevertheless, doing your homework will undoubtedly increase your chances of mastering the art of sports betting.
